I was born and raised in Lindenhurst, Long Island,
NY. Prior to entering Jr. High I inquired about Karate from one of
my friend's brother in law, Louis Coletti who I knew trained in Karate.
He told me of his training history under Hanshi Ed McGrath and he began
teaching me Isshinryu Karate for about two years. I later moved to
Tampa, Florida and could not find an Isshinryu school and entered into
Taekwondo & Hapkido, and earned my black belts, opened my own school
and later formed a Hapkido Federation. In 2006 I had located
Hanshi McGrath's website and sent him an email explaining who I was and
told him of my original instructor and my martial arts journey. He said
he remembered my instructor and invited me to come visit, and train with
he and some of his top black belts to demonstrate my style of Hapkido.
So in 2006 Master Ehnle traveled to Long Island and gave a Hapkido seminar on Long Island at
the Smithtown
Isshinryu Dojo. Hanshi McGrath, Master Frank Black and his students
welcomed me like family, they were extremely respectful, open minded and highly skilled. It was truly an honor to train
with these distinguished Isshinryu stylists under the legendary Hanshi Ed
McGrath. This trip was going back to my original Long Island Isshinryu roots to train with my
instructor's instructor! I have trained with many famous martial arts Masters
and Grandmasters, but this was an absolute thrill and the highlight of
my martial arts career to train on Long Island with this distinguished group of
Isshinryu Karateka and the legendary Hanshi Ed McGrath. This was the trip of a
lifetime for me, and something I will cherish for the rest of my life. |
